A coaching clinic was held on Sunday 21 March for U/14 and U/17 girls at Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club. The clinic was run by former Olympian softballers Kim Cooper (1996) and Brooke Wilkins (1996, 2000 & 2004). The girls who attended worked very hard for over 2 hours doing fielding drills and batting but I am sure that they learnt a lot from these two very experienced softballers.
Sharks Softball Club would like to thank Kim and Brooke and also Sheridan Darroch (Queensland Heat), Lou Teava and Maria Caterson for their help on the day.

Jason Nathan - more commonly referred to as Frecks on the Softball diamond, is the new Queensland Patriots captain for 2010.
Frecks has played Softball for the past 23 years, starting out when he was 11 years old living in Mount Isa after influence from his family.
In Mount Isa he played for the Pirates club, proving that represent Queensland and Australia is possible living outside of large regional centres. In 1993, he was part of the Australian U19 team at the World Championships, three years later in 1996 he was selected in his first Australian Open Men’s squad.
Over a ten year span from 1996 – 2006 he was a frequent member in Australian squads and teams and went to a World Series in 2000.
During his Australian representation, Frecks moved down from Mount Isa to Redlands in 1998. At Redlands Softball Association he began playing for his now current club Sharks.
Throughout his prestigious softball career, Jason Nathan has been an integral part of the Queensland Patriots, including being part of the National Championship winning team in 2002. This year will be his 11th year representing Queensland Patriots and he believes it will be a great year.
“We have a great chance of winning, we have a good blend of young and old players and we are a tight knit ground…there is a massive chance we will bring home the National Championship this year,” Nathan said.
The Queensland Patriots will contest the John Reid Shield from Wednesday the 17th until Sunday the 21st of February. Good luck Patriots!
